Your state this week

A dry week: no rain expected. Normal for the dry season: irrigate vegetables every 3–4 days and use the dry days to harvest and dry crops. Hottest day 35°C, coldest night 18°C.

Thursday, 5 Nov

Dry and clear

No rain, up to 34°C, night 20°C, humidity 36%.

What to do on the farm

  • Good for drying harvested grain, beans and pepper on tarpaulins.

How to read a farm forecast

Rain in millimetres (mm)
1 mm is a light shower. 10 mm wets the topsoil. 20–25 mm or more in a day or two is a soaking: enough to plant. 40 mm or more in a day is heavy rain and can flood low fields.
Temperature (°C)
The top number is the afternoon high. 35°C is hot; 38°C or more stresses crops, animals and people. Night temperatures of 12°C or less (harmattan) slow tomato and pepper.
Humidity (%)
How damp the air is. Above 80% for several days favours fungal diseases like blight and leaf spot. Below 25% is the dry harmattan: good for drying grain, but a fire risk.
Warnings
Pest, disease and flood warnings come from the same forecast: when the weather suits a pest or disease for many days in a row, the risk rises. They are a signal to check your field, not a diagnosis.
How sure is it?
The first 3 days are most reliable; days 4–7 show the general pattern. Forecasts are for the state capital, so your farm may differ, especially in hilly areas.
